Jordan Prestwood Is Kind Of A Big Deal

Jordan Prestwood’s commitment to Notre Dame is kind of a big deal. I’m not sure if he has any leatherbound books or a bedroom that smells of rich mahogany- but people know him. Who? The best of the best, that’s who. He has offers from all over the country and a few like: Alabama, Florida, U$C, Purdue, and Auburn really stick out like a sore thumb. The thumb that is usually twiddling around till signing day and ending up anywhere but South Bend.

I haven’t seen much film on Jordan, but I can read between the lines and offer you this insight. He is a big tight end in high school. That makes him a candidate to be an athletic offensive tackle in college. His early offer sheet is good enough that I would guess that he will probably be a a high 4 star or 5 star player.

That is the nuts and bolts of it all, but after watching his commitment video (sorry, it is a premium video on Rivals- or else you know I would post it here) I have a couple of points that you need to read…

1. Tony Alford was Jordan’s main recruiter at Notre Dame- and more importantly- he was his main recruiter on Charlie Weis’s staff. What does this tell us girls and boys? It says that recruiting is as much about relationships as it is anything else. Relationships take time. A top prospect must be recruited for a couple of years to get him on board this solid and this early. So, any Brian Kelly haters that are out there blowing him shit about a few kids- you need to chill out. This class will be a bit small in numbers (around 20) and it will have a few kids that may make you scratch your head a bit- but after Kelly and the entire staff has had time, the 2012 class could be apocalyptic. Keeping Alford was as good a move as Kelly could make early on, and he should really start to reap the benefits… ala Prestwood.

2. Recruiting will not be stopped by anyone just because you committed somewhere- no matter what you say. Prestwood was asked if this commitment was “it” or would he still look around and take visits. The question was asked in a smart-ass manner by a reporter at the Prestwood news conference. Jordan quickly, and firmly, stated that his recruitment was over and he is all Irish. We have heard this before- and so have the reporters in that room. Jordan may think that this is over, but look again at that offer list. Guys like Meyer, Kiffin, Saban, and their staffs are affiliated here. The recruiting will not stop, and will only get more sinister in nature. I believe Jordan is sincere in his statement, but history tells me to stay cautious.

I still don’t have the new Eligibility Charts updated. I’m waiting until the end of Spring Ball to finalize a few things- like positions and what not. Jordan Prestwood is the second commitment for the Notre Dame incoming class of 2011. ( Both are on the line: 1 OL and 1 DL… who are we?)

Welcome to Notre Dame Jordan!!!
