Over the weekend, Irish fans learned of a new commitment for the football team. Kyle Brindza, a junior kicker/punter from Canton, Michigan became the third verbal commitment for the 2011 class. Or did he? As it has been reported, Kyle is set to graduate from high school this June- as a junior. Because of this, Kyle may be a possibility to be a member of the 2010 Notre Dame football team.
Putting start dates aside, many Irish fans are scratching their heads about another kicker pulling a scholarship while Nick Tausch and Ben Turk still have 3 years to go with their eligibility. Brandon Walker could be given a 5th year in 2011- but that is unlikely.
It's quite simple really... Brian Kelly has placed an emphasis on special teams and competition for those positions. Even with limited scholarships for 2011, Brian Kelly went after a player/position that looks to be set for the next couple of years. No matter... Brindza may be better, and that my friends is the reason why. Do you need any more reasons?
