recruiting notebook

The summer recruiting season is usually a real motherfucker. You never really know what you are going to get. Some years see a lot of action, and some years don't. Some chips fall in our laps, while others are lost on big gambles and doubling down- WHOOPS... sidetracked.

This is still very early in the recruiting season, and the summer for that matter, but Notre Dame is starting to really shape and mold their 2011 class. This is one of those years where Notre Dame has limited space for scholarships, but to Kelly's credit, he has offered a shit-ton of prospects. Yes, shit-ton. After Clay Burton committed, a lot of Irish fans thought two other prospects would follow very shortly; Bubba Starling and Eilar Hardy.

Starling, of course, didn't work out. I wish I could say I told you so, but I kept my opinion about Starling to myself and a select list of coworkers. It just felt weird to think that Bubba was coming to ND, and I think that it doesn't really matter becaise he is probably headed for the world of baseball anyways. Just sayin'.

Someone did work out though...

eilar hardyEilar Hardyis the bastard son of Frank and Joe Hardy. The Hardy's fused their DNA together in a test tube with the DNA of Aretha Franklin and, VOILA! Eilar Hardy, a soulful dude who solves football mysteries. What a test tube that was. Hardy is a 6'0" 170 pound defensive back from the great state of Ohio, the greatest of states that end in the letter O, and becomes the 11th commitment for the Notre Dame incoming class of 2011.

Hardy chose Notre Dame over a long list of schools that included; Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Kentucky. People want him- he's good. After watching his game film, I can see why so many schools want him. He is an aggressive player that doesn't shy away from contact and moves well across the field.

The tricky thing, is that Hardy is listed as a safety, a position of great need by Notre Dame, but it is being reported that the Irish may like Hardy better at cornerback. Hmmm, well whatever works I guess. Hardy is another of those prospects, like Mathias Farley, who could be a very versatile defensive back in college and do whatever job is laid before him. That's the type of player Kelly likes and if you look at some of the other prospects that ND has offered, we shouldn't expect anything different.

Welcome To ND Eilar, Son of Soul!!!
