Although Notre Dame's season has been frustrating (to say the least) up to this point, the Fighting Irish have been solid on the recruiting trail. Notre Dame got it's 20th verbal commitment Tuesday via Facebook or Formspring or whatever the hell is used by these crazy kids nowadays. Well, I'm pretty sure that Davaris Daniels called the staff prior to posting it all over his social media, but it was still a nice surprise for Irish fans after another loss.

This commitment isn't the only surprise; the fact that Notre Dame is currently ranked #3 by Rivals and #2 by Scout as far as the team recruiting rankings are concerned, has some of the doubters of Brian Kelly's recruiting style tongue-tied and awestruck.

The Irish are sitting at the all important "85" for 2011 if everyone signs from this class and if everyone stays. (Check out this LINK for the eligibility chart for 2011) That is probably unlikely to happen, but with the Irish in good shape with a number of uncommitted recruits, it may be safe to finally say that Notre Dame could enter next season with a full 85 man scholarship roster for the first time in a long time. This shits important.

Let's take a look at the latest commit, Davaris Daniels:

davaris danielsDavaris Daniels is the bastard clone of Michael Floyd. He may not be as highly ranked as Floyd was in high school (Floyd was a 5 star and the 6th ranked WR in the country in one of the greatest classes of WR in history) but he could have the same type of impact. Daniels isn't as physical as Floyd, but he does have better speed. The 6'3" 190 pound Daniels is a strong 4 star prospect that looks as smooth as silk on tape, and I will say it again- he should make an immediate impact in South Bend.

Daniels had offers from all over the country, but most notably Oklahoma, Miami, and Arkansas. Notre Dame had a slight advantage over all of them; his good friend TJ Jones, whose father Andre (former Irish LB) is also Daniels Godfather. That's a pretty nice connection, but it may not have been enough if it wasn't for Brian Kelly. Although Brian Kelly has had a lot of Irish fans up in arms over the results of the early portion of this 2011 recruiting class, Kelly is making a stronger than strong statement over the past 2 months about what type of recruiter he is. I'll let this Tweet tell it all:

DaVaris Daniels to Tribune: "I used to hate #NotreDame to tell you the truth...Then Coach Kelly came (and) the whole mood changed."less than a minute ago via ÜberTwitter

If you already haven't understood my opinion of Daniels... I think he's really fucking good. Good enough to come in, and play right away for the Irish IF Michael Floyd leaves early for the NFL. However, even if Floyd is back, don't think for a second that Davaris will redshirt. He will get some looks, and with an offense that is supposed to use a lot of different WR's he could become that 4th option. I know I am hyping him up, but I just like this kids tape a lot, and I think he's the real deal.

Welcome to ND Davaris, The Not Really Clone of Floyd!!!
