Welcome back to the reinstated Subway Domer's Recruiting Notebook. It takes John Turner committing to Notre Dame to shake the dust off of the old girl and take her for a ride. Since my little "break," Notre Dame has had 4 commitments (that includes Turner) which brings the total number of commitments to 11.

This commitment is not a surprise. Turner had been waiting on an Irish offer and it only took some short days after his offer from Notre Dame to pull the trigger and commit to the 2012 class.

Turner comes from a prestigious catholic high school football program in Indianapolis (Cathedral). As a three star prospect (according to Rivals), Turner has seen a lot of offers from mostly MAC schools and the bottom of the barrel in the Big Ten.

OK, so you are waiting for me slam the kid, the offer, and the commitment- right? WRONG.

I have said repeatedly that I trust this staffs judgement (until proven otherwise). Look at his size; 6'2" 200 pounds. That's a nice sized safety in college- let alone as a soon to be senior in high school. The way Turner put it, the staff wanted to see his speed. So, they clocked him at the ND Summer Camp and VOILA!... Here's your offer to come play for the Irish, son.

Brian Kelly and this staff are not afraid to take raw talent and develop them. In fact, THAT'S WHAT THEY DO. THAT'S WHAT THEY HAVE MADE THEIR BONES DOING. IT'S WHAT THEY GET PAID TO DO! Turner may not even be needed until 2014, which by then he could be a redshirt sophomore. That's 3 years of training. We never know, but that is a very likely scenario.

I like it, and you should too.

Welcome to ND Captain Turner!!!

As you can see, the Irish are down to 4 scholarships remaining if all eligible 5th year players return. That probably isn't going to happen, and I would guess that at least 5 will be gone. That would mean there are 9 more spots for a class of 20. Notre Dame is hitting all of their needs in this class with the exception of running back. That may still take a bit longer to shake out. Also, more quality wide receivers are needed. I believe ND would take as many as five WR's in this class. True story.
