Irish Blogger Gathering: Purpleface

notre dame

Welcome to this weeks Irish Blogger Gathering. The fellas over at Gameday 40 ask us all to preserve the ancient tradition of Haiku.

So let’s IBG this thing…

1. I don’t know anything about Wake Forest except that Tim Duncan went there.  Who is the Tim Duncan of the Wake Forest footballers, i.e., one guy that the Irish must game plan for on Saturday and why?

I’m not going to pretend I know a great deal about Wake Forest. Sorry, but I just never got around to doing an in depth game study of a team with a 32,000 seat stadium. However, you always have a gameplan for whatever QB you face. Tanner Price is a fine football player. Not great, but he gets the job done a lot of times. Containing him and putting pressure on him is a must. Go for that 3 INT game like North Carolina had against him last week.

2. Cierre Wood and Jonas Gray have been a solid running back tandem this year with Gray coming on strong in the last couple of games.  With a finite amount of opportunities for each back, how do you think BK should split the carries in the coming weeks?  Explain.

I’m not too concerned with the exact number of carries each back gets, but I do hope that both get their carries. Notre Dame has got to run the ball with authority in the month of November to get their wins. Whoever has the hot hand is fine, but I like how we are able to use fresh legs all game. I do love the way Jonas has been running, and I am pulling for him just a wee bit more.

3. Andrew Hendrix did not play against Navy.  Without speculating as to the reasons why he didn’t play against the Midshipmen, do you think he’s being underutilized?  Why or why not?

No, he is not being underutilized. He is being developed. I’m fine with him not playing, but I would have liked a little more of Crist (all about forgiveness YO!)

4. What do the following series of statements mean—if anything— for Notre Dame versus Wake Forest this weekend?  Wake Forest beat NC State.  NC State beat Virginia. Virginia beat The U. The U beat Ohio State. Ohio State beat Illinois. Illinois beat Arizona State. Arizona State beat USC. USC beat Notre Dame.

It means that college football is a great game. Upsets happen all of the time. Just because Appalachian State beat Michigan and then Michigan beats Florida- that doesn’t mean Appalachian State would have beat Florida. This game is great, and depending upon a particular matchup- anything can happen.

So my answer is… NOTHING, with a smile.

5. What’s your prediction for Saturday’s game against the Demon Deacons and why?  Bonus points if your answer is a Haiku.

Brian Kelly rants.

The Irish drop fifty;

All’s well with purpleface.
