So, it's being reported by just about every NFL outlet that Brian Kelly talked with the Philadelphia Eagles after the BCS Championship game.
And @jayglazerhas reported Eagles' interest in ND HC Brian Kelly as well.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 10, 2013
I'm not sure what to make of all this just yet. Is Kelly using Philly as leverage on a new ND contract? Does Brian Kelly really want to coach in the NFL? Are there any good deli's in Philly? Lot's of questions here and I'm not sure when we will hear anything exact- although I guess by early next week. I know a guy who knows a guy that sells hot dogs at Lincoln Financial Field.
Here we go Irish fans....
Congrats to BK for costing us our first of what will be many recruits. Good bye Alex A. Hope Kelly's enjoying his vacation.
That can be used against him in recruiting. It also sends the wrong message to a team that he just resuscitated. In that sense, I hope he's interviewing because he's truly considering it.
There is no way Chip Kelly turns down Philadelphia only to have Brian Kelly take the job. Oregon is better than Philly. Notre Dame is better than Philly. It's kind of embarrassing for them to keep having these high profile disses. Sort of like ND last year on NSD.
Pretty damn sure this is just contract leverage with his negotiations with Swarbrick and ND. Just business.
@MartinDekom Really, because I think the HC is just a wee bit more important. Losing Kelly would set ND back another 3 years.
Also. I don't really see this as any more than contract negotiations with ND.
@TheSubwayDomer But this team was built on defense. Kelly's an offensive guru, but we don't run the spread, which is his specialty, or even really a "tempo" offense. We're basically built to be a running team and he doesn't like to run. But we do it well, largely because of Hiestand's work this year. So that means all Kelly is bringing to the table is recruiting. ND recruited well before him and will after. Even if this is just a contract play, it just cost us a prize recruit. Coming off a humiliating loss, it's the wrong message. It's like saying he himself is not a RKG. So I'm not saying I want to lose Kelly, but as long as we can keep core pieces here (read: Diaco), I think we'll still be very competitive.
@TheSubwayDomer To clarify, I'd prefer not to lose Kelly, but if we do and replace him w Diaco, then I feel we'd still be on the right track, uninterrupted.
Louis Nix, now, is not worried. Perhaps a phone call eased his mind?
He sat there in that interview with legends Ara and Lou as they praised him for the direction he's taking the program. SMFH
Louis Nix is a little surprised
Also interest from the Bears?
